DO's and DON'Ts for Electricity Usage

- Install safety equipment like circuit breakers near the point of supply.
- Ensure proper earthing is installed at your premises.
- Use only ISI-marked cables and hire licensed electrical contractors.
- Pay energy bills regularly at authorized centers.
- Switch off the electricity supply when not needed.
- Use proper capacity fuse wires in main switches.
- Install adequate capacitors for inductive loads.
- Use only ISI-marked electrical equipment.
- Protect your energy meter and metering equipment with weatherproof enclosures.
- Call licensed contractors for fault rectification.
- Report faulty/stopped meters immediately.
- Submit applications with complete and accurate details.
- Provide proof of ownership or legal tenancy.
- Pay security deposits and connection charges on time.
- Ensure contractor presence during supply activation.
- Provide meter access at the ground floor.
- Install meters/cut-outs in the ground floor for all storied buildings.
- Check meter capacity before adding heavy appliances.
- Use electricity only for the approved purpose (e.g. domestic).
- Protect RESCO-owned equipment on your premises.
- Maintain safe distance between new buildings and HT/LT lines.
- Arrange right-of-way if lines pass through neighbor property.
- Upgrade to three-phase if load exceeds 4000W.
- Take safety precautions to avoid electrical accidents.
- Replace defective fittings and appliances promptly.
- Pay bills early in the month to avoid last-minute rush.
- Maintain security deposit equal to 3 months' consumption.
- Pay reconnection charges promptly if disconnected.
- Report faulty meters in writing.
- Get internal wiring checked periodically.
🚫 DON'Ts
- Do not connect multiple equipment to a single outlet.
- Do not use bare wires to extend supply across locations.
- Avoid loose connections and joints.
- Do not steal electrical energy—it’s illegal and punishable.
- Do not tamper with energy meters or meter seals.
- Do not pay bills to unauthorized agents.
- Do not plant trees below overhead power lines.
- Do not touch live wires or outlets.
- Do not hire unlicensed electricians.
- Do not use substandard electrical equipment.
- Do not apply for a new connection before wiring is completed.
- Do not send applications via ordinary post or hand them to unauthorized staff.
- Do not delay security deposit or connection charge payments.
- Do not build underneath HT/LT lines without clearance.
- Do not shift meters without official approval from RESCO.
